Sažetak (na izv. jeziku) : During the time spent at the University, students acquire various skills related to acquisition, organization, preservation and dissemination of information. Theoretical LIS knowledge gained at University is always verified through students' practical placement at various LIS institutions during their time of studying (annually, students are required to have 60 hours of work in one of LIS institutions). It is often the case that students' practice in non-academic institutions is accomplished through different sorts of activities indirectly related to acquired knowledge, either caused by different practical requirements of the institutions, or cause of the evident discrepancy between the advances of new technologies and theories taught at the University and those implemented in practice. Therefore, Faculty of Philosophy's Department of Information Sciences in Osijek developed an idea that, with the appropriate supervision, the knowledge and skills students acquired at the University can be applied in practice, by including students in various projects of the Department, related to acquisition, organization, preservation and dissemination of information. One of the projects that was deemed to be suitable for involving students is the creation of digital repository for storage of the digital content created daily by the Department (students' diploma papers, teacher's articles, various news, etc.), and organized in several digital collections. Creating digital repository involves various activities which could be performed by students under surveillance of their instructors: digitization of the material, image processing, graphic design of the interface, creating metadata, indexing, abstracting, etc. This poster presents students' activities in the development of the initial collection of the Department's Digital Repository - the collection of students' final (diploma) papers. With the students' theoretical background gained in some of the LIS courses, students were able to carry out various activities related to creating and organizing the collection. For example, knowledge and skills students acquired in the course Digitization were utilized during digitization of those final papers which weren't initially in electronic format. Knowledge and skills related to image processing and editing gained within the same course were applied during image optimization in certain final papers, with the aim of decreasing the size of the image and reducing the amount of space required by that diploma paper. Skills gained within the course Websites' Composition were applied at designing digital repository's graphical interface and developing the logotypes for the repository and the collection of final papers. Knowledge on metadata was gained in the course Organization of Information. Students applied this knowledge through understanding the metadata schema especially developed for this collection and through metadata input for each of the papers. Finally, the most advanced knowledge and skills on subject analysis, synthesis and item's description, gained within the courses Introduction to Research Work and Indexing and Retrieval Systems, were used for indexing and abstracting of final papers, under the strict supervision of the instructors. Teachers' involvement in the project is related to more complicated tasks, from installing and maintaining the software solution for digital repository (FEDORA), through creating program solutions for organization and accessing the items, which include the latest technologies in this field (XML, XLS, Web Services, RDF, etc.) to creating the most appropriate metadata scheme for describing student's final papers. The collection of graduation thesis within the framework of Departments' digital repository can be found at the address: http://oziz.ffos.hr/zdr The aim of this poster is to point out the possibilities of practical application of skills and knowledge acquired at University by involving the students, within the framework of their mandatory 60 hours of practical placement, in work on different projects where they can apply in practice everything they learned in the classroom. The example of creating the collection of students' final papers within the project of the Department's digital repository, demonstrates how students' knowledge on information acquisition, organization, preservation and dissemination can be successfully applied. After more complicated tasks are done by the instructors, it is on the students to continue with the input and editing of repository's digital content, and all within the previously planned bond between the theory and practice in the shape of mandatory 60 practical placement hours per academic year.
Sažetak (na hrv. jeziku) : Za vrijeme studija studenti ovladavaju raznim vještinama vezanim uz prikupljanje, organizaciju, zaštitu i diseminaciju informacija. Znanja stečena na studiju studenti imaju priliku provjeriti kroz redovitu studentsku praksu tijekom svih godina studija. Međutim, čest je slučaj da se studentska praksa u izvanakademskim ustanovama odradi na poslovima koji nisu izravno povezani sa naučenim ili zbog različitih potreba praktičnih ustanova u danom trenutku ili zbog razumljivog kaskanja u razvoju za modernom tehnologijom i teorijom koja se uči na studiju. Zbog toga se na Odsjeku za informacijske znanosti Filozofskog fakulteta u Osijeku došlo na ideju da se, uz kvalitetan nadzor, ova znanja mogu primjeniti u praksi i za vrijeme trajanja studija uključivanjem studenata u različite projekte Odsjeka vezane uz prikupljanje, organizaciju, zaštitu i diseminaciju informacija. Jedan od takvih projekata je i stvaranje digitalnog repozitorija koji bi trebao pohranjivati digitalne sadržaje koje svakodnevno proizvodi Odsjek organizirane kroz više digitalnih zbirki. Stvaranje digitalnog repozitorija uključuje mnoge poslove u koje se mogu uključiti i studenti pod profesorskim nadzorom: digitalizaciju građe, obradu slika, sudjelovanje u grafičkoj izradi predloška sučelja, unos metapodataka za jedinice digitalizirane građe, indeksiranje, pisanje sažetaka i sl. U radu će biti predstavljen angažman studenata na stvaranju inicijalne zbirke digitalnog repozitorija Odsjeka – Zbirke diplomskih radova. Na osnovu stečenih znanja iz pojedinih kolegija studenti su se mogli uključiti u provedbu pojedinih poslova kod kreiranja zbirke. Npr. stečeno znanje o digitalizaciji u okviru kolegija Digitalizacije građe studenti su mogli primjeniti kod digitaliziranja diplomskih radova koji nisu izvorno bili pohranjeni u digitalnom obliku. Znanje o tome kako obraditi sliku u okviru istog kolegija studenti su primjenili kod optimiziranja slika pojedinih diplomskih radova s ciljem smanjivanja njihove ukupne veličine i zauzimanja što manjeg prostora na disku računala. Znanja iz kolegija Oblikovanje mrežnih stranica studenti su primjenili kod grafičkog oblikovanja predloška sučelja digitalnog repozitorija te izrade logotipa za repozitorij i Zbirku diplomskih radova. Stečeno znanje o metapodacima u okviru kolegija Organizacija informacija studenti su mogli primjeniti kroz razumijevanje sheme metapodataka specifično razvijene za tu zbirku te unos metapodataka za svaki diplomski rad. Konačno, znanja vezana uz predmetnu obradbu i opis jedinica građe u okvirima kolegija Sustavi za označivanje i pretraživanje te Uvod u znastvenoistraživački rad studenti su, uz strogi nadzor profesora, koristili za indeksiranje i pisanje sažetaka diplomskih radova. Profesorski angažman povezan je uz složenije poslove, od instalacije i održavanja softverskog rješenja digitalnog repozitorija (FEDORA) preko kreiranja programskih rješenja za organizaciju i pristup jedinicama građe a koje uključuju najnovije tehnologije u tom području (XML, XSL, Web Services, RDF i sl.) do osmišljavanja najpogodnije sheme metapodataka za opis svakog diplomskog rada. Zbirka diplomskih radova u okviru digitalnog repozitorija Odsjeka može se pronaći na adresi http://oziz.ffos.hr/zdr/ Cilj rada je ukazati na mogućnost da se stečena znanja kojima studenti ovladavaju tijekom studiranja mogu primjeniti na način uključivanja studenata u projekte, u okviru redovite studentske prakse, a koji se sastoje od poslova koji za svoju provedbu zahtijevaju upravo ta znanja. Na primjeru kreiranja Zbirke diplomskih radova u okviru projekta stvaranja digitalnog repozitorija Odsjeka pokazano je kako se stečena znanja studenata vezana uz prikupljanje, organizaciju, zaštitu i diseminaciju informacija mogu uspješno primjeniti. Nakon provedenih složenijih poslova u okviru uspostave digitalnog repozitorija Odsjeka od strane profesora, studentima preostaje da u okviru svoje redovite studentske prakse, na osnovu stečenih znanja tijekom studiranja i pod profesorskim nadzorom, nastave sa unosom i obradom digitaliziranih sadržaja u repozitoriju.
